Cuala turned on the style in the third quarter as they eventually overcame Thomas Davis by 5-15 to 1-19 in their entertaining Go-Ahead Ireland Adult Football League Division 3 opener at Kiltipper Road on Sunday morning.

The hosts played the bulk of football in the first-half but the concession of a goal to Luke Toomey and a brace of two-point scores by Tom Magee pushed Cuala 1-9 to 0-8 ahead at half-time.

The visitors maintained their momentum after the break with Aodhan English at centre-back and Killian O’Shea at midfield leading the way and they put daylight between the teams courtesy of further goals from Toomey, Cuan Nugent, Dan O’Sullivan and Peter Jackson.

Thomas Davis stayed in touch through the scoring efforts of full-forward Sean Reilly but Cuala ensured their win thanks to points shared by Nugent, Magee, Darragh McAdam, Cormac Ó Floinn and Jamie Keenan.

Elsewhere, St Maur’s, Round Towers Clondalkin and St Patrick’s Palmerstown all enjoyed their travels as they picked up impressive away wins at Ballyboughal, Trinity Gaels and St Margaret’s respectively.
