What we’ve achieved in past has no relevance to Sunday: Jim Gavin

Wed, 20th April 2016

Dublin enter Sunday's NFL Division 1 final against Kerry in Croke Park (3.30) knowing victory will bring a historic first league four in-a-row for the county.

However, manager Jim Gavin says for his panel and management it's all about the here and now not what has been achieved in the past.

"There’s no guarantees. That’s why we take the one-game approach. If we don’t turn up on Sunday, Kerry will win. It’s a simple as that." says Jim.

“We’ve never traded off the past. It’s always about the game that we have. Maybe a little look over the horizon to see what’s coming up next, but that’s about it.

“Whatever achievements the players get, it’s just a reflection of their purposefulness at that moment in time. Then it’s gone, it moves on.

“What they’ve achieved in the past has absolutely no relevance to Sunday. What they achieved six months ago has no relevance, no context, it’s a different game ... six months is a long time in football."

Dublin are expected to pick from a full panel for Sunday's Croke Park decider with Ballyboden St Enda's midfielder Michael Darragh Macauley having returned to full training after injuring a hamstring during the All-Ireland club SFC final on St Patrick's Day.

“Michael Darragh is back fully training now. He had a soft tissue injury from the All-Ireland club final back in March but he is back fully and is available for selection. We have a full complement to select from this weekend, which is great."
