We are totally focused on Roscommon: John Small

Wed, 25th July 2018

Dublin senior footballers may have guaranteed themselves top spot in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final Group 2 but they will not be taking a breather in their last group game according to defender John Small.

The Dubs face Roscommon on Sunday week in Croke Park (3.30) while at the same time Donegal will host Tyrone in Ballybofey to decide the other All-Ireland semi-finalist from the group.

“Roscommon pose a very different threat than Tyrone do, and they are a different animal,'' says the Ballymun Kickhams defender.

“Everyone is fighting for a position, everyone wants their opportunity to represent the group and the fact that we have another game is great.

"We are just totally focused on Roscommon.

“(It will be a) tough game, they’ve some really good players, the likes of Enda Smith and the two Murtaghs.

'"They play a nice, attacking brand of football and it will be a really tough game in two weeks’ time.”

The Dubs can't be caught at the top of Group 2 by virtue of the head-to-head rule in the event of two counties finishing level on league points. And following their victories over Donegal and then Tyrone last Saturday night they are assured of top spot.

Reflecting on last Saturday's game in Healy Park, Omagh John said: "it was great that we went up there and got the win.

“It was a great game up there, very tough, very physical.

"Tyrone are a great side. We didn’t expect anything less, there was only one score in it in the end. Yeah, a very good game.

“We’re happy to play wherever, whether it’s Parnell Park, Croke Park, Healy Park, you know, we’re all just delighted to be able to represent Dublin and to go out and to perform to the best of our ability. We don’t really mind where the games are to be honest.”

AIG Ireland has announced that the logo of children’s charity Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, will replace the insurer’s logo on the front of the Dublin jersey for upcoming football, ladies football and camogie fixtures.
