Ballyboden St Enda’s had to show all their experience and great mettle to overcome Clontarf in last Sunday’s Dublin SFC semi-final.
The southsiders were reduced to 14 men late in the opening half, when Michael Darragh Macauley was dismissed (black card, after an earlier yellow), but came strong in the dying minutes to edge out Clontarf 0-12 to 0-10.
The face an even bigger challenge in this Sunday’s decider when they face two in-a-row champions, St Vincent’s (4.0).
“It's great to be in the final, but we want to push on now,” remarks Boden selector Finian Hyland.
“There's great pride in all codes on the Firhouse Road, and it's fabulous for the club to be looking ahead to another Senior Championship final.
“It's going to be enormously tough. St Vincent's are a wonderful team. They are one of the best sides in Ireland, let alone Dublin, so it's going to be a huge challenge for us.”
Looking back on the Clontarf victory he adds: “It was very much a 50-50 game. It was a bit of character, a bit of experience, that brought us through.
“It was a fantastic performance from Clontarf. It wasn't enjoyable on the line, that's for sure. It was a tough game. Clontarf fought all the way through. It was a huge effort from them.”
