U16 footballers receive walkover in Gerry Reilly quarter-final

Dublin's under-16 footballers have received a walkover from Cavan in the Gerry Reilly U16 Football Tournament Cup quarter-final which was scheduled for this Saturday in Millbrook, Oldcastle, Meath.

The remaining Cup quarter-finals pit Down v Louth (Friday) which the Mourne County won 5-18 to 1-6 and then Meath v Wexford and Cill Dara (Kildare entered two teams) v Offaly (both games Saturday).

Dublin, who now progress to the semi-finals, won their three games in their group (Group B) defeating Down (3-14 to 3-11) last time out in Páirc Esler, Newry.

Following their previous victories over Wicklow and Antrim the Dubs put in a strong second half display to overcome Down by three points, after trailing by 0-7 to 2-4 at the half-time interval.

The young Dubs defeated Wicklow 7-18 to 0-5 in Joule Park, Aughrim and followed that up with a 4-11 to 2-4 win against Antrim in the Louth Centre of Excellence, Darver.

Cavan had finished as runners-up in Group A after despite conceding a walkover also to Louth in their concluding round-robin phase game.

Prior to that the Breffni Blues had impressed in their victories over Longford (6-20 to 0-4), Leitrim (1-20 to 2-7) and Fermanagh (2-15 to 1-15).
