U16 footballers make winning start to Gerry Reilly tournament

Dublin's under-16 footballers got their Gerry Reilly U16 Football Tournament campaign off to a wining start with wins against Wicklow and Antrim over the past few days.

The young Dubs defeated Wicklow 7-18 to 0-5 in Joule Park, Aughrim last Saturday morning and followed that up on Monday night with a 4-11 to 2-4 win against Antrim in the Louth Centre of Excellence, Darver.

Dublin's goal-scorers against Antrim were Tomas Hegarty, Barra O'Donoghue, Max Corcoran and Eoin Wilde with Harry Hughes and Ciaran Morrissey particularly prominent in setting up a succession of scores.

Dublin's grouping (Group B) is completed by Down whom they face this coming Saturday in Páirc Esler, Newry (1.0).

Eighteen teams are participating this year with Kildare entering two sides (in Group A and D). The top two teams in each Group advance to the Cup quarter-finals with the next two progressing to the last-eight of the Shield.
