DUBLIN 3-15 MEATH 0-7
Dublin’s under-16 footballers continued their impressive form in the Gerry Reilly Tournament when they defeated Meath, operating a split squad with two teams in the competition, on Sunday night in Oldcastle, Meath.
The Dubs will now face an unbeaten Cavan, the reigning holders, in the final on Sunday, July 26 (7.30pm) in Millbrook, Oldcastle.
The Dubs made a lightening start with the impressive Richie English goaling after only 12 seconds. The St Jude’s lad added a pointed free into the third minute of play as Dublin settled well into the game.
Ballyboden St Enda’s Ross McGarry pointed for Dublin. The Dubs also created two goal-scoring chances but were denied on both occasions – with Meath keeper pushing both out for ‘45s’ one of which English converted as the Dubs entered the break 1-6 to 0-4 to the good.
A Tom Fadden converted free on the restart reduced the gap to four points but then Dublin got the upperhand by adding six unanswered points.
Dublin who went on to add two goals through Andrew Doolin and a Ross McGarry penalty.
Dublin's Karl Bissett received the Millbrook Food Market 'Man of the Match' award from Eddie O'Reilly (Oldcastle GFC).
