The quarter-final will be a step up again: Mattie Kenny

Thu, 7th March 2019

Dublin hurlers will find out this weekend who they face in their HL Division 1 quarter-final on St Patrick's weekend.

While the Dubs battled their way to victory against Laois in very poor conditions at Parnell Park last Sunday many top-flight games were deferred until this Saturday and Sunday.

As a result Mattie Kenny's men are afforded a rest weekend from competitive intercounty action as they size up potential last-eight opponents.

“There’s no point even looking at that Division 1A table now and wondering who you’re likely to play," said Dublin manager Mattie Kenny.

“That Division 1A has been very, very competitive in the last five or six weeks.

“So whoever we get it’s going to be a really good challenge but it’s something we’re really going to look forward to.”

The Dublin manager has been impressed with the attitude of his players since taking charge.

“I think they’re acutely aware of the level we’re at the moment.

“We want to get to the next level and to drive on the Dublin senior team and Dublin hurling in general.

“I think everyone in the group is focused on that.

“The thing that impresses me most is the attitude of this bunch.

“Their attitude at training, the way they’ve worked at training, they’re very, very coachable.

“They want to represent Dublin in a really positive way. At the moment, we’ve progressed through all our matches in Division 1B.

“The quarter-final will be a step up again, we understand that but we’re looking forward to that challenge.

“The next few weeks will give us a good barometer of where we’re at and what we need to do between then and the Championship.”
