For the second year in-a-row Mayo, inspired by Cora Staunton, have gotten the better of Dublin in the Lidl Ladies NFL.
Sunday’s encounter was a closer contest than last year’s clash with just two points separating the sides at the final whistle.
Although, Dublin outscored their opponents in the second half by 2-3 to 1-3 Mayo’s first half performance gave the westerners a five-point lead at the break.
Cora Staunton once again was the key figure for Mayo scoring 1-9 of their total tally of 2-9 with Grace Kelly scoring Mayo’s second goal.
Two second half goals scored within two minutes of each other by Sinead Aherne and Noelle Healy set up a tense exciting finish to the game. But it was to be Mayo’s day as Frank Browne’s charges held on to register another famous league victory over Dublin.
Next Sunday Dublin head north for a 3rd round clash with Monaghan who today lost to Galway by 3-13 to 2-9

Leinster Minor LFC
Dublin 6-13 Laois 1-6
Dublin minors got their 2016 Leinster championship campaign off to a good start with a 22 point victory over a gallant Laois side.
Laois were first on the score board under a minute gone on the clock with a well taken point from Liz Brophy. This would be the only time throughout the game that the O’Moore County would hold the led.
The weather conditions were unpleasant for both teams as players from both sides had to contend with both a strong wind and rain showers. Laois having the aid of a strong breeze for the opening half of the contest.
Points were at a premium due to the swirling wind Dublin compensated for this by scoring a hat trick of first half goals which came courtesy of wing half back Muireann O’Gorman ((4 min), half forward Mia Jennings (18 min) and corner forward Clara O’Sullivan (29 min).
Laois also got in on the goal scoring action with a well take goal coming from the boot of Aine Seale in the 28th minute.
The home side led at the break by 3-03 (12) to 1-04 (7).
With the wind at their backs Dublin began to dominate the side half of this entertaining minor championship game despite Laois once again getting the opening score of the second period with a well taken point by Aine Seale.
Dublin worked the ball well as a unit while their finishing was impressive with McDunphy, O’Sullivan, Douglas and Jennings all playing well up front.
Emily Flanagan was also impressive for the blues from wing half back with the Ballyboden St Endas player linking up well with her forward line.
Dublin’s second half goals came from Douglas (6th min), McDunphy (30 min) and substitute Jennifer Dunne (34 min).
Dublin held Laois to just two points in the second period of the game while tagging on 3-10 on to their own tally.
Wexford are up next for Dublin the Slaney siders lost narrowly to Offaly in their opening round game by 1-07 to 0-11. Dublin v Wexford is down for a 2pm throw in time in St Peregrines on Saturday February 20th.
