St Marys GFC To Host Community Welcome Event For Ukranian Refugee Families

A community welcome event is taking place today at St Marys GFC in Saggart for Ukranian refugee families who are staying nearby in Citywest Hotel.

CityWest Hotel is being used as a staging post for Ukranian refugees who first arrive into Ireland.

There are over 288 children from refugee families currently staying in CityWest Hotel. St Marys GFC are hoping to introduce the children to Gaelic Games while they are staying there.

It’s hoped that this will be a first introduction to Gaelic Games for the children, who will hopefully stay engaged with GAA clubs if & when they move to another part of the country.

The event takes place at St Marys GFC clubhouse in Saggart at 7pm this evening, where several skill stations have been set up to introduce children to Gaelic Football.

Refreshments will be provided to Adults, too, as a way of introduction to the local community and members of St Marys GFC. A Ukranian translator will also be on hand at the club on the evening.
