Shane Barrett in confident mood ahead of Galway duel

Wed, 24th May 2017

Dublin hurler Shane Barrett is hopeful that the Dubs can bring their 'A game' to Tullamore this Sunday when they face newly crowned league champions, Galway, in the Leinter SHC quarter-final (4.0).

While Dublin suffered relegation from Division 1A of the league Shane says that that disappointment has been dealt with and Dublin enter Sunday's game in confident mood.

“We performed well in some games but we didn’t get the result. We took a week to get over that. We took the learnings from it. We said what had to be said and pushed on from there.

“So we’ve put that one to bed and we’ll pick the League up again next year. We’ve left that behind us.

“I’m very confident we can (overcome Galway). Very confident.Preparation has gone well, training matches, friendlies. They’ve all gone well for us. You only take the confident things from these matches and push on then," adds Shane.

If Ger Cunningham's men need any recent case studies on the underdog over-turning the hot favourite then they need only reflect on last Sunday's Munster SHC clash that saw Cork topple All-Ireland champions Tipperary.

“Cork were underdogs, came in, and they just sort of threw everything they had at them from the start. That's what we're going to be trying to do against Galway. In the first ten minutes we're going to set up and push on from there.

“We're going to bring it to them from the start instead of sitting back and waiting to see what they will do. We're planning on taking it to them.

“You see that Cork win, it's sort of blown the Championship wide open in that sense. It's given teams that may not been seen as the top teams a chance.

“I think you take confidence from that. Even the younger lads on this Dublin team looking at that, that was a young Cork team that played there.

“So I don't think there's any reason they were looking at that saying they couldn't do it as well.”
