Senior hurlers determined to bounce back

Senior hurlers determined to bounce back

Mon, 13th February 2017

Dublin hurling manager says last Saturday’s defeat to All-Ireland champions Tipperary was a sharp learning experience for his younger players as they commence their senior intercounty career.

A youthful Dublin side began very well against Tipp and led 0-4 to 0-1 early on and could have also scored a goal before the Premier County began to exert their influence.

Next up is Cork next Saturday night in Páirc Uí Rinn (7.0), the Rebels buoyed by their impressive victory over Clare.

“The plus side is that we’ve introduced some young fellas and hopefully they’ll learn from the experience of playing the All-Ireland champions and hopefully the lads are hurting from that performance,” says Ger.

“It wasn’t good enough and we’ll have to try turn it around. We were well beaten. Hopefully they’ll take the hurt from the performances.

“The best thing about it is you can park it and move on and go back out next week and get a chance to redeem yourself.

“It is tough, there’s no point in hiding it.

“We’re down maybe 10/11 players that we can’t consider, but we’ve known that for a couple of weeks, and the guys who’ve come in instead of them should have been able to put their hand up and try take a chance,” adds Ger.

“The game is that bit quicker, more physical, but the time has passed when they were underage players. They’re now senior players and they’ve got to learn quickly.”
