Senior footballers and AIG team up to support Aoibheann’s Pink Tie charity

Wed, 3rd June 2020

AIG Insurance, proud sponsor of Dublin GAA, have teamed up with Aoibheann’s Pink Tie and the Dublin senior football team to send personalised messages to children and their families battling cancer throughout Ireland as well as helping to launch a fundraising drive to support the important work the charity does.

Like a lot of charities, Aoibheann’s Pink Tie has had to postpone or cancel a number of important fundraising events and opportunities due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions.

In one of a series of video messages recorded, Dublin defender Eoin Murchan, who scored an incredible individual goal in last year’s All-Ireland final replay victory over Kerry, encourages children to keep up the good work with the hope they’ll be back out on the football pitch soon.

Aoibheann’s Pink Tie was selected by AIG Ireland’s staff to be their chosen charity in 2018 and have continued their support and fundraising efforts since.

The charity provides financial and practical support to children and their families fighting cancer across Ireland, including those who are attending the St John's Oncology Ward in Our Lady's Children's Hospital.

AIG has been supporting Irish businesses and families for over 40 years in Ireland and is an active supporter and sponsor of the communities it serves across the nation.

Through its various local and national sponsorships and partnerships along with a number of CSR initiatives, it is active at grassroots and community levels building and forging strong ties and relationships with the people it serves through its business operations, products and services.

In a first for GAA back in 2018, AIG replaced their logo on the Dublin GAA jersey with that of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie in what was a massive awareness and fundraising campaign for the charity.

Speaking on the initiative, General Manager of AIG in Ireland Declan O’Rourke said: “I would like to thank Eoin Murchan for the time and energy involved in recording the videos for AIG’s partner charity, Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, Eoin did a brilliant job.

"I believe that Eoin and the Dublin senior football team will not only be remembered as the best ever team on the pitch but also as the best ever team for using their well-earned fame to give back to the communities in Dublin and throughout the country. At AIG, we are very proud of all their achievements.”

Mick Rockford, co-founder of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie added: “This is a fantastic initiative organised by AIG, and it gives the children a real lift during a particularly difficult time for the patients, super siblings and their families. We are very grateful to AIG for their continued support and helping us create a greater awareness of the charity in Ireland.”
