Senior camogie side earn draw with Offaly

Sun, 3rd February 2019

Littlewoods Ireland Senior 1 National League

DUBLIN 0-10 OFFALY 0-10

On a very cold but dry day the Dublin Senior Camogie team hosted Offaly at Parnell’s GAA Club, Coolock on Sunday.

Referee Eamon Cassidy from Derry blew his whistle with a minute to throw in, in front of a large crowd for a minute’s silence to honour Dublin Senior Camogie player and Footballer Louise Lynch.

Many of Louise’s family and friends were there and it was heartbreaking to see their pale faces etched with the pain of loosing a loved one but they were also so proud of what was being done for their beloved sister and friend. Many thanks to Maire Scully for making sure this happened.

Donegal lost four young men last week, such a tragedy, Dublin lost Jackie Griffin who I believe will change how we use social media forever – I hope all our young/ and not so young, Dublin Camogie players will think before posting in the future , I know I certainly will.

The first score of the game came in the 2nd minute from Naomh Fionnbarr’s Siobhan Kehoe with a lovely point, with the next being 2 minutes later from Offaly’s Arlene Watkins.

In the 5th Minute Dublin’s Alex Griffin and Na Fianna player and Faughs/ Celtic starlet Kerrie Finnegan went on to score a point each from play leaving the score Dublin 0.03 Offaly 0.01

Offaly’s Aisling Brennan and Mairead Teehan were awarded frees which were slotted over the bar, so at 13 minutes we were level.

There were to be 5 more scores before the interval, 2 each from Dublin’s Ali Maguire and one each from Offaly’s Mairead Teehan and Aisling Brennan.

Alex Griffin had scored another point from play and when the half time whistle went it was Dublin 0.06 to Offaly’s 0.05

Five minutes into the 2nd half of the game and Offaly’s Mairead Teehan leveled the game with a point from play.

In the sixth minute of the second-half Dublin’s Ali Maguire sent a free sailing over the bar but Offaly’s Mairead Teehan came back with 2 more points from frees by the 11th minute.

The score was now Dublin 0.07 v Offaly 0.08

Dublin were first to make a substitute which would be their only one of the game, , Evelyn Twomey came on for Aisling Maher in the 15th minute of the 2nd half

The next score of the game was to be in the 21st minute of the 2nd half, Mairead Teehan Offaly scored a great point from play.

In the 22nd minute, Offaly would then go on to make 2 substations – Eadaoin Kilmartin for Orlagh kirwin and Mary Teehan for no 10 Orla Gorman.

Twenty three minutes in the 2nd half and Ali Maguire slotted over another free and then Kerrie Finnegan added a beautiful point from play. The score was now level at 0.09 a piece

With time running out for both teams in this much win game, Offaly’s Mairead Teehan scored a point from a free which left Dublin a point down, but Dublin’s Ali Maguire showed nerves of steel when scoring the last point of the game from a free to level it all and it ended Dublin 0.10 v Offaly 1.10 just before Offaly made their 3rd substation with Grainne Egan for Aoife Walsh.
