Round Up: Go-Ahead Ireland AFL 3 & 4

St Margaret’s picked up their first win in Division 3 of the Go-Ahead Ireland Adult Football League when overcomingSt Maur’s by 4-12 to 1-9 in St Margaret’s on Friday evening.

Brian Shanahan was in fine form up front for Maggies as he plundered 2-2 while Leon Daly also impressed as he chipped in with 1-3 over the hour.

Charlie Madigan was another player to impress in attack as he popped up with two points and with Jack Stynes and Ciaran Bruton doing likewise, they built up an imposing tally as Jamie McGuinness also found the back of the St Maur’s net.

McGuinness and Jamie Hempenstall brought a solidity to the home defence while goalkeeper Conor Shanahan, Ciaran Heneghan, Damian Murphy and Shane Madigan all impressed in their defensive duties.

It proved far tighter at Sean Moore Park as Clanna Gael Fontenoy edged Clann Mhuire by 0-16 to 1-12 on Friday night.

The midfield pairing of Austin Dodd and Rory Tobin helped provide a strong platform and with Thomas McGowan and Philip Ruddy chipping in with scores, they held on for victory thanks largely to six points from play by Jack Flanagan.

On Sunday morning, Erin’s Isle, Ballyboden St Enda’s and Thomas Davis picked up away wins at Ballymun Kickhams, Clontarf and St Patrick’s Palmerstown while St Anne’s. Cuala and Round Towers Clondalkin registered home wins.

In AFL4,Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels recorded their second successive victory as they narrowly got the better of St Sylvester’s by 2-14 to 2-12 at Galtymore Road.

After a tight win over Castleknock in Round 1, the hosts impressed once again through the likes of Adam Quinn, Barry O’Reilly, Elliot Lupton and Josh O’Brien.

Goalkeeper Jamie Devine made two superb interventions to preserve his team’s lead while at the opposite end of the field, both Dylan Kearns and Dean Blood accounted for the bulk of their scores.

They are joined at the summit of the table by a Geraldine P. Moran side that defeated their local rivals Kilmacud Crokes by 1-14 to 2-4 in Ballyogan.

After a slow start to proceedings, the hosts assumed of control of matters before the break courtesy of a brace of two-pointed scores from Jack McGovern.

Cian Gallagher and Aaron Dalton ensured that Gers remained on top as the contest evolved and they were comfortable winners by the final whistle as Jamie Blake Holmes fired over six points.

St Vincent’s, Garristown and St Peregrine’s all enjoy perfect records to date following their respective wins against Fingal Ravens, O’Dwyer’s and Ballinteer St John’s.
