Round Up: Go-Ahead AHL 1 & AHL 2- 4th May

St Brigid’s finally picked up a deserved first win In Division 1 of the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Hurling League when narrowly defeating St Vincent’s by 1-21 to 2-17 at Russell Park on Saturday evening.

Having been on the receiving end of some tight losses this year, the Blanchardstown side were indebted to 1-7 from James O’Connell and eight points from Jonathan McGuirk to help them get over the line.

Diarmuid Breslin and Donnacha Ryan chipped in with two points apiece while strong individual displays by Conall Burke, Mark Coyne and Darren McLoughlin were equally crucial by the final whistle.

There was another home win in Páirc Uí Mhurchú as Ballyboden St Enda’s A proved too strong for St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh, prevailing by 1-30 to 0-13.

Ballyboden set the tone through impressive performances from Conor Dooley, Sean McDonald and Stephen O’Connor while at the opposite end of the field, Darragh Kenny top scored with ten points.

Niall Ryan (1-3), Dooley (0-4), David Gleeson (0-4), O’Connor (0-2) and Niall McMorrow (0-2) ensured the hosts stayed on the front foot with the scoring completed by points by Jack Lambert, Timmy Hammersley, Pearce Christie, McDonald and Cillian Kirwan.

Lucan Sarsfields were another team to enjoy their home comforts when beating Ballyboden St Enda’s B by 2-21 to 1-16 at the 12^th Lock.

The visitors impressed initially through James Roche and Jack Kennedy but points by Charlie Keher and Sean Harkness left the teams deadlocked at 0-5 apiece by the end of the first quarter.

The hosts seized the initiative through a Harkness goal and points by Matt Coogan, Ciaran Dowling, Hugh Cuffe and Harkness and a Coogan goal from Ben Coffey’s pass pushed Lucan 2-9 to 0-7 clear by half-time.

Sarsfields maintained their control of matters through three Dowling points and two apiece from Cuffe, Coogan, Keher and Coffey and while Kennedy netted a reply for St Enda’s, Lucan goalkeeper Cillian Murray stalled any comeback hopes with two smart saves.

In St Anne’s Park, Kilmacud Crokes completed their sixth successive victory as they enjoyed a routine 2-24 to 0-12 win over Raheny.

Brian Sheehy and Darragh Geraghty were rock solid in the Crokes defence with Oisin O’Rorke impressing at the opposite end with a personal tally of 0-8.

Ronan Costello also shone with 1-3 and with Michael Roche (0-4), Brendan Scanlan (1-2) and James Dillon (0-3) all making solid scoring contributions, the leaders eased home through further points by Cian Ryan, Breandán Ó Conaill, Sean Purcell and Fionn Ó Ceallaigh.

Elsewhere, Na Fianna enjoyed a comfortable 2-28 to 2-12 win over Craobh Chiaráin while Faughs had two points to spare against Cuala (2-20 to 2-18).

In Go-Ahead AHL2, Thomas Davis continue to lead the way as they overcame Fingallians by 3-21 to 0-19 at Kiltipper Road.

The race for second place remains an intriguing one as Ballinteer St John’s scored goals at crucial times en route to their 3-17 to 0-18 win over Scoil Uí Chonaill at Marley Park.

The hosts were far from fluid in the opening half but a number of switches worked their magic after the break with Tom Aherne shining on his way to a personal tally of 2-9.

Niall O’Doherty added the third St John’s goal with Liam O’Sullivan, Jack Gilligan and Fionn Riordan chipping in with two points apiece as they moved into joint second spot, alongside a Naomh Barróg team that lost to St Jude’s by 0-26 to 1-12.

In Broomfield, St Sylvester’s cemented their mid-table position with a strong team display and victory over Whitehall Colmcille by 2-23 to 1-23.

The likes of Will Rooney, Conor Hoyne, Alan Morris, Darragh McLoughney and Eamon McLoughney worked tirelessly to restrict the talented Colmcille attack while Syls offered a threat of their own at the opposite end of the pitch.

Ciaran McLoughney (1-7) and Dan Murphy (0-8) helped build a winning total, with Liam Foley (1-3), Tommy Costelloe (0-3) and Cian Whitney (0-2) also looked sharp up front.

Kilmacud Crokes leaped into fourth place in the table by virtue of their 3-18 to 0-18 win over Castleknock at Silver Park.

Corner-forward Andrew Dillon was a constant menace for the away defence and his sniping runs were a major factor in Crokes pulling away from their opponents.

The free-taking of Darren Crowley was another factor as he contributed eleven points from placed balls in addition to raising a green flag alongside Michael Gibbons and Dan Doyle.

Goalkeeper Andrew Dunbar was another to impress with a solid showing between the sticks and his excellent double save in the second-half ensured there was no way back for Castleknock.
