Action in Division 1 of the Go-Ahead Dublin Adult Football League resumed last Sunday morning with Clontarf delivering an exceptional defensive display to defeat Thomas Davis by 2-9 to 3-3 at Kiltipper Road.
The visitors may have had little to play for in terms of the safety of their mid-table position but it acted as an ideal preparation for their impending SFC2 final against Fingallians.
The away goals arrived through Kevin Lillis and Daragh Fagan with the likes of Nathan Doran, Liam Howley, Calum Aherne and Finn McCarrick all impressing in Clontarf’s three-point win.
Elsewhere, Skerries Harps enjoyed a narrow 4-7 to 0-18 home victory over Ballyboden St Enda’s.
The hosts dominated the first-half with goals by Greg McEneaney, Eoin Wilde (2) and Ciaran Murphy helping build a healthy eight-point interval advantage.
However, Ballyboden seized control upon the restart to trim their deficit but Skerries held on for the crucial win with Jack Smith producing a superb individual performance for the winners.
At the opposite end of the table, St Jude’s confirmed their place in the Top 4 as they eased past Raheny by 4-12 to 1-9.
David Sheehy netted twice for the Templeogue side with the other goals coming through Simon King and Kevin Lahiff.
In total, ten players contributed to the St Jude’s tally with Cathal Howard, Colm Murphy, Kieran Doherty, Eoin Kenny, Kamen Bagnell, Anton McGennis and Mick Lawlor all troubling the umpires over the hour.
Raheny now lie in third bottom place and look likely to face Skerries in a relegation play-off to see who ends up in AFL2 next year alongside already relegated Naomh Olaf and St Vincent’s.
The final match of the morning was at Páirc Uí Bhriain as Ballymun Kickhams eased past Naomh Olaf by 2-18 to 0-12.
Dillon Keating and Andrew McCaul found the net for Ballymun, who pushed for home thanks to six points from Dean Rock and four points by Paddy Small.
In Go-Ahead Adult Football League Division 2 , Parnell’s bounced back from the disappointment of their IFC final defeat to Scoil Uí Chonaill on Monday night when edging Templeogue Synge Street by 2-13 to 2-12 in Chanel.
The visitors raced out of the blocks to lead by four points early on but a 7th minute goal from Adam Doyle helped get the hosts back on track.
Points from Cillian Hunt (3), Adam Myler and Jamie Sammon saw Parnell’s ease their deficit to just three points (1-8 to 1-5) by half-time.
The hosts dominated the third quarter through early points by Conor McGrath and Stephen Duffy and an Adam Myler goal saw them overtake their opponents by the 38th minute.
Hunt, Sean Quinn, Alex Hutton and Harry Gardner looked to have done enough for Parnell’s as they moved six points clear before Synger finished with a flourish to fall just short by the final whistle.
The Go Ahead Dublin Intermediate All County Football Championship final also took place on Sunday morning with goals by Collie Dunne and Eoghan Gannon helping Ballyboden St Enda’s overcome Na Fianna by 2-8 to 0-7 at O’Toole Park.
