2020 WALSH CUP SEMI-FINAL
SUNDAY, JANUARY 12: Parnell Park
GALWAY 0-19 DUBLIN 0-18

Galway advanced to the Walsh Cup final with this semi-final defeat at Parnell Park.

A strong finish to the first half when the Tribesmen came from four points in arrears to lead at the break (0-12 to 0-11) gave the Connacht side a lead they never relinquished.

Dublin tried to the finish but despite points from Mark Howard, Danny Sutcliffe and an Oisín O’Rorke free they never got back on level terms.

From a Dublin perspective Danny Sutcliffe and Seán Moran made their return to action as manager Mattie Kenny gave a wide spread of hurlers game-time over the course of their four Walsh Cup games against Westmeath, Carlow, Laois and Galway.

The Tribesmen edged in front 0-12 to 0-11 by the interval after scoring the last five points of the opening half.

Dublin opened well with points from John Hetherton and an Oisín O’Rorke free and by the 11th minute were 0-7 to 0-3 clear following scores from Eamonn Dillon (two), two Oisín O’Rorke points (one free) and a brilliant long range strike from Chris Crummey.

Heading into the concluding five minutes of the first half Dublin put three scores together with John Hetherton and Oisín O’Rorke (two frees) to lead by four, 0-11 to 0-7.

However, Galway finished the opening period on the up to nose ahead by the break, it was a lead they held onto.

2019 LEINSTER SHC ROUND-ROBIN ROUND 5
SATURDAY, JUNE 16: Parnell Park
DUBLIN 3-19 GALWAY 0-24

What a game, what an occasion, what an atmosphere, what a conclusion as Dublin finished stronger to edge out Galway by four points in this Leinster SHC Round 5 clash at Parnell Park.
Over the previous two summers Dublin have lost games in the dying moments or faded in the concluding minutes but not on this occasion as they attacked the game to the finish and were rewarded for their courage in a game that was level on 18 occasions.
Goals were the winning of the game - Eamonn Dillon's in the opening half and two second half goals through Sean Moran and the inspirational Chris Crummey.
"There was a massive game of hurling there tonight, and if we ended up with a draw or Galway winning by a point, and lads are saying, 'ah it was a great game of hurling'," said Dublin manager Mattie Kenny afterwards.
"These Dublin players would say they're tired of moral victories.
"They want to start getting real victories, and in fairness to them, they're after delivering that tonight."
Crummey's goal was vital after sub Ronan Hayes put him through on goal, the Lucan Sarsfields half-back might have elected for the simpler option of a point but he went for the killer blow.
In a physically intense battle both sides lost a key player through injury with Eoghan O'Donnell, who had been enjoying a superb run of form, forced out with a hamstring injury in the 14th minute while Galway lost forward Conor Whelan in the 26th minute.
The aerial exchanges were exceptional with Danny Sutcliffe and especially Conal Keaney inspiring their team.
Dillon's goal arrived in the 28th minute when his acceleration took him past the Galway defence and he batted to the net past keeper Colm Callanan for Dublin to lead 1-8 to 0-8.
However, Galway reacted well to hit four unanswered points through Cathal Mannion (two), Callanan (free) and David Burke for the Tribe to lead 0-12 to 1-8 at the interval.
Dublin made a dream restart when Chris Crummey was hauled to the ground by Daithí Burke and Seán Moran made no mistake with the penalty.
Galway introduced Joe Canning in the 47th minute and he quickly announced his presence with two points.
With the game up from grabs Dublin really put the shoulder to the wheel and with the likes of Conal Keaney and keeper Alan Nolan, from play inside his own '45', grabbing inspirational points Dublin were not going to be stopped.
Crummey's 69th minute goal sealed the deal for Mattie Kenny's men as they progressed to the knockout stages.
SCORERS – Dublin: O O’Rorke 0-9 (0-6f, 0-1 ’65), E Dillon 1-1, C Keaney 0-3, C Crummey, S Moran (1-0 pen) 1-0 each, C Boland 0-2, A Nolan, D Sutcliffe, L Rushe, F Whitely 0-1. 2019 HL DIVISION 1B ROUND 3
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17: Pearse Stadium, Salthill
GALWAY 0-20 DUBLIN 1-11

Hosts Galway were deserving winners as Dublin struggled to make the desired impact in this HL Division 1B clash at Pearse Stadium, Salthill.
Apart from Danny Sutcliffe's goal, which made it 0-5 to 1-1, the Dubs lacked spark and there was never any doubt about the eventual outcome heading down the home straight in front of a crowd of 6,983.
Galway, afteaying with the wind, led 0-13 to 1-4 at the interval, with the accuracy of Joe Canning from placed balls to the fore and the dynamism of Cathal Mannion a telling factor.
Dublin's goal arrived in the 15th minute when Oisín O'Rorke won possession before leaving Jack Grealish in his wake and presenting Sutcliffe with the opportunity.
But Galway reeled off the next five scores without reply before Rian McBride converted a sideline before adding a point from play.
The second-half started with promise for Mattie Kenny's men when half-time sub Donal Burke pointed in the opening minute.
However, three points on the spin from the Tribesmen dampened any hope of a Dublin revival in the second period.
“When you come down to places like Pearse Stadium, against a quality team like Galway, then you’ll know where you’re at and you’re not in any false position,” said Dublin manager Mattie Kenny afterwards.
“Galway are All-Ireland champions from 2017. They are one of the top two sides … that’s the standard that we’ve got to get to.
“Any time you lose, you’re a bit disappointed. Hopefully, they will learn something and it will stand to us as the year goes on," added Mattie.
“A lot of these guys have played an awful lot of Fitzgibbon games. We talked about it a few weeks ago, the load that is on them.
“I’m not making any excuses, but Galway looked that bit sharper and they were more top-of-the-ground and we looked leggy all across the field.”
SCORERS - Galway: J Canning 0-8 (0-8f), C Mannion 0-4, S Bleahene 0-2, A Harte, S Loftus, N Burke, C Whelan, J Flynn, D Glennon 0-1 each. Dublin: R McBride (0-1 sideline), D Treacy (0-2f, 0-1 '65') 0-3 each, D Sutcliffe 1-0, E Dillon 0-2, J Hetherton (0-1f), D Burke, S Moran (0-1f) 0-1 each.

2019 WALSH CUP SEMI-FINAL
SUNDAY, JANUARY 13: Parnell Park
DUBLIN 1-17 GALWAY 0-21

A stunning Joe Canning sideline in the third minute of added time secured victory for Galway in this Walsh Cup semi-final at Parnell Park.
The Tribesmen looked to be cruising to victory when leading 0-20 to 0-13 with ten minutes remaining but the Dubs put in a stirring finish to draw level as the game moved into injury-time.
However, it was Galway, through Canning's brilliance, who had the final word as they progressed to the decider.
Dublin finished with 14 men after John Hetherton was red-carded in the 62nd minute as the game finished in great excitement.
A Hetherton free, after a foul on Eamonn Dillon, was followed by a fine Chris Crummey point to see Dublin close the gap to 0-20 to 0-15 before Sean Moran converted a penalty after Donal Burke was fouled.
Mattie Kenny's men kept pressing on and were rewarded with two frees from sub Oisin O'Rorke to bring the sides level, 1-17 to 0-20 as the game moved into added time.
But it wasn't to be for the Dubs with Canning cutting over the winner in the 73rd minute.
Galway were the stronger side in the opening half and held a deserved 0-15 to 0-8 advantage at the break thanks to the all-round play and freetaking of Cathal Mannion while Brian Concannon did well at full-forward, he had a goal effort diverted over for a point in the 31st minute by Alan Nolan.
