Hurling

PREVIEW: Dublin v Offaly- Leinster SHC

By Conor MartinWed, 16 April 2025

Dublin begin their 2025 Leinster Senior Hurling Championship campaign this Saturday when we host Offaly at Parnell Park (throw-in 6pm).

Match tickets for the game are available here.

The Dubs will be looking to kick on from their league campaign, in which they finished third- just missing out on a top-two finish, winning four of their league matches but suffering narrow defeats against Offaly and Waterford.

Despite leading Offaly 0-14 to 0-10 at the break, Dublin were unable to put the game to bed and thanks to a late surge from the Faithful County, they were able to pip Dublin to the post with Brian Duignan pointing twice late in the game before Dan Ravenhill clinched the win for Offaly in the 73rd minute.

The likes of the experienced Dónal Burke, Conor Donohoe and Fergal Whitely impressed during the League campaign, as did the likes of new faces David Lucey and Conal Ó Riain.

Dónal Burke was our top scorer in our league campaign with 0-25 to his name, while Cian O’Sullivan and Diarmaid Ó Dúlaing were our second and third highest scorers with 2-15 and 0-16, respectively.

After losing the provincial final last year, Dublin will be hoping to go one better as we look to end a 12-year wait for Leinster glory.

Dublin manager Niall Ó Ceallacháin has improved his options during the league campaign and will hope this proves fruitful during the upcoming Championship campaign.

Offaly have had a 2025 to remember already; they finished second in Division 1B and were promoted alongside eventual league champions Waterford, who handed Offaly their only defeats of the league season.

Johnny Kenny will be hoping his side will use the momentum generated by their fine league campaign to full effect in Leinster this championship.

Duignan was on fire throughout the league and finished top of the scoring charts with an incredible 1-68. Killian Sampson and Oisin Kelly are both dangerous in front of the posts and having beaten Dublin already this year, they’ll be confident they can provide Dublin with a tough test this weekend.
