Our concession of frees has been too much: Pat Gilroy

Our concession of frees has been too much: Pat Gilroy

Tue, 9th January 2018

The new year has commenced in a frenzy of activity for the Dublin senior hurlers with games against Meath, Tipperary (challenge) and Antrim already under the belt.

This Sunday Pat Gilroy’s men take on Wexford in Parnell Park (2.0) in the Bord na Móna Walsh Cup semi-final.

Pat has already seen plenty to be encouraged by and plenty to work on as the Dubs prepare for this NHL Division 1B opener against Offaly in Croke Park on Saturday, January 27 (5.0).

“We’re setting out to do certain things and we’re focusing on that a lot,” says Pat.

“We’re not paying too much attention to the opposition at the minute, we want to do things ourselves so if we’re not seeing it happen, we make the change.

“We didn’t concede a goal in the two competitive games and we only conceded one on Saturday (in their challenge match loss to Tipperary).

“So in terms of stopping goals, that has been very good. It’s a game where goals can be crucial.

“But our concession of frees in scoreable areas has been too much. So it’s something we have to work on.

“But certainly, we’re putting our bodies on the line to make sure we don’t concede goals, which is progression.”
