Alan Nolan is hoping the competition for places in Ger Cunningham’s team can drive Dublin’s hurlers to greater heights in 2015.
The Dubs face Galway in the Leinster SHC this Sunday in Croke Park (2.0) and the No 1 spot is one of many where the Dubs have strength in depth.
St Brigid’s netminder enjoyed a prolonged period between the sticks this spring but knows that the battle for the goalkeeper’s jersey is a difficult one with Gary Maguire and also Conor Dooley in the race.
“This is my seventh year (on the panel),” says Alan.
“It was just the fact that Gary (Maguire) had never got injured or he’d always played. But the two of us are always going hard at each other; Conor Dooley is there with us as well.”
“So my thing now is to try and just keep that going and fight hard for my place ... I can only put my best foot forward; so can Gary and Conor Dooley. And Ger’s the manager, so he’ll pick the best one of us.”
