Minor footballers face “very strong” Wicklow in Leinster quarter-final

Wed, 29th May 2019

Dublin minor footballers face Wicklow in the Leinster MFC quarter-final this Saturday in Joule Park, Aughrim (3.0) hoping to maintain their winning streak.

This campaign the Dubs have defeated Meath, Wexford and Offaly in the group phase but now it's down to knockout.

“They are growing with each game that they have played and it’s all about making the right decisions,” said Dublin manager Jim Lehane.

“They have had some difficult moments in all of the three games so far and they’ve managed to work out the issue for themselves, which is very encouraging from a management perspective.

“In our last match against Offaly, we conceded five points in succession but the lads organised themselves correctly and resolved the issue.

“That is the philosophy of the development squads. And, of course, the more games that they play at this level the better in terms of their development,” added Jim.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s contest against the Garden County in Aughrim Jim added: “There should be a big crowd in Aughrim and everyone is aware of Kevin O’Brien’s fingerprints all over their attacking play.

“They are very strong up front and there’s not a chance that we would underestimate them.

“We’re really looking forward to the game and we’ll have to be right up for it and I’m confident that we will be.”
