Masters footballers face Down hoping for third victory

Dublin's Masters (Over-40s) footballers face Down in their third game of the Championship round-robin group this Saturday in Clonduff GAA, Newry (3.0).

The Dubs, who are reigning All-Ireland champions, have already recorded victories over Laois and Roscommon in their two encounters to date.

They defeated Laois 3-11 to 3-7 in their opening clash in Stradbally but were made sweat for the victory after leading 3-4 to 0-1 at one stage of the opening half thanks to goals from Niall Crossan, Ray Cosgrove and Ciarán McGuinness.

Dublin following that up with a more comfortable 2-17 to 0-9 victory over Roscommon in Fingallians GAA, Swords last time out with Niall Crossan and Ciarán McGuinness again on the goal-scoring act.

There are 16 teams in total participating this year with the top four progressing to the semi-finals.

The Dubs will face Tyrone (Saturday, June 15), Mayo (Saturday, June 29) and Kildare (Saturday, July 27) in their remaining group games.

The other counties taking part are Clare, Antrim, Cavan, Sligo, Donegal, London, Galway, Roscommon, Westmeath and a combined Leitrim/Longford selection.
