The Crokes on Tour 2025!
On Sunday 2nd March the 2025 edition of Crokes on Tour brought 700 club members to Walsh Park in Waterford to watch the Dublin hurlers take on the Deise. While Waterford eeked out a victory at the death, the day was a huge success for the young hurlers who roared them on.
Starting in Glenalbyn at 8am, 15 buses and a convoy of cars brought 350 U8 to U12 hurling and camogie representatives to clubs all over Waterford, Kilkenny and Wexford to play challenge matches. Lavish spreads were laid on by the locals after the matches, with return invitations issued to travel up to the Crokes Festivals of Hurling in September.
Seven Crokes players started for Dublin in the main event in Walsh Park, some of whom are teachers, coaches and even siblings of the juvenile players.
The Dubs dominated the game but a close battle went in favour of the Suirsiders at the end. The young supporters left nothing behind, though, roaring on the men in blue.
The match that had been arranged for half time nearly didn't get to take place, such was the number of Crokes kids pucking around on the pitch.
At the final whistle the Dublin players stayed on, despite the disappointment, and chatted and took pictures with the Purple and Gold (and Blue)-clad youngsters.
A great day was had, and some good hurling connections forged. Thanks are due to the Waterford County board, the Gardaí on duty on the day who were especially helpful and all the local clubs who hosted (especially Mount Sion who allowed us to park some buses in their nearby grounds).
