Kelly: Ger Cunningham will develop a new style for Dubs

Kelly: Ger Cunningham will develop a new style for Dubs

Tue, 30th December 2014

Dublin hurler Peter Kelly expects the boys in blue will develop a different style of play as they progress through 2015 as new manager Ger Cunningham puts his own imprint on their game.

"(Anthony) Daly was all fire and brimstone, the way he went at it,” explains the Lucan Sarsfields man.

“He was a motivator. A leader. He was looked up to. He was the one in the dressing-room who led the charge.

“Whereas I suppose for the first few weeks with Ger (Cunningham), he kind of lets the players do the talking and lets the players come to the fore.

“It’s early days yet. But you can see the kind of style he wants to bring to it. He wants to bring a team game, high intensity – the way hurling is going nowadays.

“There’s no point pucking the ball into the full-forward line trying to get a goal. It’s more keeping possession and that’s probably the style he wants to be bring.

“But there wouldn’t be very much style at this time of the year. Come the summer you might see something different.”

Dublin's senior hurlers face the Dublin Bus/Herald Dubs Stars this Thursday (New Year's Day) in Chanel, Parnell's GAA club, Coolock (12.30) in the annual Dubs Stars challenge, the game is followed by the football equivalent (2.0). Admission is €10 for adults and is free for under-16s.

Dublin Bus will be running a free shuttle service between Whitehall Church car park to Parnell’s ground from 11.30am. The service will continue until after both games have finished.
