DUBLIN SHC ‘A’ QUARTER-FINAL

BALLYBODEN ST ENDA’S 1-18 ST VINCENT’S 1-8

A dominant second-half saw Ballyboden St Enda’s run out ten-point victors over St Vincent’s in Saturday’s second quarter-final at Parnell Park.

Boden were much the better side in the second period and after leading by four points at the break scored the opening four scores on the restart to move 0-14 to 0-6 clear by the 39th minute.

The hard-grafting Niall McMorrow kickstarted this scoring flow with Conal Keaney adding two excellent points either side of a close-range Paul Ryan free.

John Hetherton, with a free, briefly broke Boden’s momentum but Joe Fortune’s men were not long in getting back into the scoring swing of it.

Paul Ryan hit two frees and a ‘65’ before clinically dispatching a penalty in the 52nd minute, after the influential Conal Keaney had been fouled.

That put Boden 1-17 to 0-7 clear and despite a John Hetherton goal from a 22 metre free it was Boden’s day. There was no way back into contention for Vinnies who had lined out without the injured Cian McBride.

In an evenly balanced opening half Ballyboden St Enda’s scored the last three points of the period to lead 0-10 to 0-6 at the break.

A massive 90-metre free from John Hetherton and fine point in the run by Rian McBride made it 0-7 to 0-6 by the 28th minute.

However, Boden tagged on three points in quick succession with Niall McMorrow, Aidan Mellett and James Madden all on target to afford the southsiders a four-point interval advantage.

Earlier in the first-half the scores were exchanged with Johnny Walsh opening the scoring for Vincent’s in the third minute.

Conal Keaney replied for Boden before John Hetherton, on the run from 35 metres, edged the Mario men back in front.

A Paul Ryan free from halfway levelled it again before a brilliant Rian McBride sideline cut made it 0-3 to 0-2 to Vincent’s.

Converted frees from Paul Ryan and John Hetherton ensured that neither side were gaining any great momentum.

But points from Niall Ryan and impressive scores from Paul Ryan and Conal Keaney nosed Boden 0-7 to 0-4 clear.

John Hetherton, with that long-range free, and Rian McBride closed the gap before Boden found their scoring touch before half-time to lead by four points.
