Junior joy for Jude’s and Raheny

Junior joy for Jude’s and Raheny

Mon, 13th October 2014

St Jude’s came from five points in arrears at the interval to defeat Ballyboden St Enda’s 2-13 to 2-8 in Sunday’s Dublin JHC ‘A’ final at O’Toole Park.

Central to their victory was the deadball accuracy of Kieran Quigley, who shot seven points, to help the Tymon North men to victory much like he did 18 years ago when also aiding his side to Dublin junior glory.

Goals from Oisín Cannon and Eamon Gorman helped Boden to a 2-5 to 0-6 interval lead but Jude’s were far from finished.

A minute into the second half Mark Hannon drove the sliotar to the net to spark Jude’s fightback.

By the 40th minute the sides were level following points from Seán McLoughlin, Seán O’Connor and Kieran Quigley with Oisín O’Donnell playing an influential role for the eventual victors.

A Mick Griffin free edged Boden back in front but Jude’s held the upperhand thereafter with Diarmuid McLoughlin’s 48th minute goal vital going down the home straight.

In the Dublin JHC ‘C’ final two goals from Donal Ryan plus an individual tally of 0-11 (ten frees) from Cian Daly saw Raheny overcome St Brendan’s 2-14 to 1-13 at O’Toole Park.

Raheny survived a three-quarter fade out as Brendan’s took control before eventually recovering to run out winners.

The Dublin 5 side led 1-8 to 0-7 at half-time but were reeled in by Brendan’s on the restart with John McInerney and Shane Foley on the mark as the Grangegorman side moved into a two-point lead.

However, points from Cian Daly and Kevin Walsh brought the sides level by the 43rd minute.

The crucial score came shortly after when Donal Ryan kicked home his side goal of the day.

Three Cian Daly frees and excellent Jack Hanley point strengthened Raheny’s lead.

The needed it too as John McInerney’s goal from a free four minutes from time ensured there was a dramatic finish with Stephen Turton’s penalty save late on seeing Raheny into the winner’s enclosure.
