It’s important lads are playing well with their clubs: Mattie Kenny

Fri, 17th July 2020

Dublin hurling manager Mattie Kenny has welcomed the return to competitive action for clubs this weekend.

The adult hurling championships get underway across the capital on Saturday with Sunday’s heavyweight clash of Kilmacud Crokes and Ballyboden St Enda’s in Parnell Park (3.0, live on TG4) being the pick of the crop.

“We have all missed competitive matches over the last few months,” says Mattie.

“So everyone from the players, management teams and supporters will be delighted to get to see some games at the weekend.

“Speaking to some of the players, they are really happy to be back playing matches.

“Most of the clubs have had two or three challenge games in the last couple of weeks and now they have a number of competitive championship games to look forward to.

“Overall, these matches will bring players on massively which, in the long run, is good for both club and county.”

The Dublin boss will be keeping a keen eye on the performance of the intercounty players with the upcoming games also providing a window of opportunity for those hopeful of getting asked into the senior panel ahead of this autumn/winter’s rescheduled championship.

The Dubs are due to face Laois in their Leinster SHC quarter-final on weekend of October 24/25 with the winner advancing to face Kilkenny a week later.

“We’ll be keeping an eye on players’ form in these club matches.

“And it’s important that lads are playing well in the coming months with their clubs, as it will be a quick enough turnaround to the inter-county championships,” adds Mattie.
