Recent injury concerns Rory O’Carroll, Cian O’Sullivan, James McCarthy and Denis Bastick have been given the all-clear as Dublin senior footballers focus on their Leinster SFC semi-final against Kildare on Sunday week (June 28, 4.0) in Croke Park.
However, Ger Brennan is still some way off a return to competitive action.
“He should be back soon, very soon. I would be hesitant to put an exact date on the calendar, but he’s been working with the medical team and now he’s over with the athletics team so he’s very close now,” said Dublin manager, Jim Gavin.
He’s kept himself in good physical condition, done a lot of work in the gym, and his body composition is excellent.
“He’s a very experienced player who brings a lot to the team and his influence off it has been outstanding as well. We’d like to see him back on the park.
“Obviously, as a manager, you want your best players on the park and on a personal level it’s been a long road for Ger. But he’s a very determined man and he wants to get back in the blue jersey and is putting in a big fight for it. We’ll support him as best we can.”
The Dublin manager also said it was not too late for Paul Mannion to work his way back into his plans. The talented forward missed this year's league action after furthering his studies in China. He is currently travelling in North America but is expected home in the next few weeks.
“He’s on his way back, I’ve spoken to Paul and if he’s back and plays, like any player our squad is, we don’t have a closed championship squad, its always open," said Jim.
