I hope this sends a message out to Dublin supporters: Ger Cunningham

Mon, 16th February 2015

Dublin hurling manager Ger Cunningham is hoping that Sunday’s commanding NHL Division 1A victory over Tipperary will bring Dublin fans out in greater numbers.

“I hope this sends out a message to the Dublin supporters to come out and support the team,” says Ger following Sunday’s encouraging opener.

The Dubs face Kilkenny in Nowlan Park this coming Sunday followed by Cunningham’s native Rebels in Croke Park as part of a double-header with Dublin footballers v Tyrone.

Ger took positivity from the displays of some of his players being tried out in new positions.

“He’s (Conal Keaney) a very good hurler,” said Ger. “I don’t think he’d have a problem adapting to the new positions we’re trying - not just Conal, but we have a few people moving around to see if they can try and help to develop the team.

“They all did their bit. I wouldn’t just highlight Conal but in fairness, for his first inter-county match at wing-back, he did very well.”

He also had praise for Michael Carton at full-back.

“I think he has adapted very well,” added Ger.

“He has had no issue at full-back. Strong guy, good hurler, good physical presence and I think he did very well in there.”
