Dublin 2-16

Tipperary 0-21

Dublin Senior Hurlers showed character and resilience to hold on for victory against Tipperary on Saturday evening in Semple Stadium.

With time nearly up and the home team having closed the gap to the minimum, it was some excellent last ditch defending that kept Dublin on course to take the victory.

After missing a number of scoring chances early in the game, Dublin found themselves behind 0-6 to 0-2 but then found another gear with points from Ronan Hayes and Danny Sutcliffe that was then followed up with a well taken goal from Rian McBride after good build up play from Fergal Whitely and Chris Crummey. McBride and Conor Burke added further points to help Dublin close out the half with a two point lead - 1-08 to 0-10.

Jake Morris was dangerous for Tipperary and helped push his team in front early in the second half but Dublin again responded well with scores from Donal Burke, James Madden and Rian McBride.

Kilmacud forward Hayes then tipped the game in Dublin's favour when he collected a good ball from Danny Sutcliffe and raced in on goal to produce a crisp finish to the net. Tipperary fought back through Jason Forde and Noel McGrath but the Dublin defense held firm in the closing stages to pick up the victory.

Up next, Dublin face Kilkenny next Saturday March 5th in Parnell Park.
