Dublin midfield dynamo Michael Darragh Macauley has paid a glowing tribute to Ger Brennan who announced his retirement from intercounty action on Monday.
“Ger was a huge player for Dublin over the years. He is a leader on and off the pitch, he’s a big presence in the dressing-room and he’s definitely one of the guys you’d look to in the heat of battle as well," says Michael
“Ger was a great bloke to have around the place, he is always up for a bit of craic and devilment as well as being a top footballer. He was a big player for us.
“He had a few long seasons with St Vincent’s as well. That probably didn’t do his injuries any favours. He was unlucky that he couldn’t get them right again.
“It’s a sad day for Dublin but knowing Ger, his head is in the right place and hopefully he’s happy with the decisions.
“It’s unfortunate he wasn’t able to get the body fully right but it wasn’t for a lack of effort. He gave it a lot of work and rehab to try and get himself right.
“You’d ask him how are things keeping but I definitely didn’t see this coming at all. As I said, he’s a huge loss for Dublin," concluded the Ballyboden St Enda's clubman.
