Friends of Dublin Hurling: Dublin Team of 1960-2020 announced

Mon, 8th June 2020

The votes are in and counted!

The Friends of Dublin Hurling Team (1960-2020) has been named following their email competition with no one selecting the same exact team that the poll eventually dictated.

Seán Lane was the closest and so was declared winner of the €50 voucher.

The selection is dominated by members of the Leinster SHC winning teams of 1961 (pictured below on All-Ireland SHC final day, lost to Tipperary) and 2013, the last two occasions Dublin have won the Bob O'Keeffe Cup.

There are also six All Stars included in the selection - Mickey Bermingham (1971), Brian McMahon (1990), Alan McCrabbe (2009), Gary Maguire (2011), Liam Rushe (2011, 2013), Danny Sutcliffe (2013).

However, Peter Kelly, an All Star recipient in 2013, missed out narrowly.

The team will be honoured at the next Friends of Dublin Hurling Celebration Night.

Gary Maguire, Liam Rushe, Conan Keaney, Danny Sutcliffe and David 'Dotsy' O'Callaghan were all on Dublin's starting 15 that defeated Galway (2-25 to 2-13) in the 2013 Leinster SHC final while Des Foley, his brother Lar, Noel Drumgoole, Des Ferguson and Liam 'Achille' Boothman were on the Dublin team that hit seven goals in their Leinster SHC final victory over Wexford in 1961 (7-5 to 4-8).
