Dublin hurlers' victory over DIT last Tuesday night in the Bord na Móna Walsh Cup saw a number of players line out in positions less familiar to during the reign of Anthony Daly and David O'Callaghan is sure that new boss Ger Cunningham will continue to mould his squad as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
This Sunday in Parnell Park (2.0) the Dubs face Antrim in the Walsh Cup with the winners progressing to the knockout stages.
"He (Ger Cunningham) has us all guessing now,” says David. “There’s a big squad out at the moment and we’ve another game on Sunday so he’s just letting lads hurl and observing what’s going on. People won’t question where they’re playing, it’s a question of going out and impressing.”
O’Callaghan is now 31 but is enjoying his hurling “nearly more as I get older”. He’s injury-free, training away, but has no idea whether he’ll feature this weekend when Dublin complete the group phase of their Walsh Cup campaign (Parnell Park, throw-in 2.0).
Commenting on the early days under the new management Dublin's sharpshooter who recently transferred club allegiance form St Mark's to Ballyboden St Enda's adds: “It’s fresh, it’s very enjoyable. He’s brought in a lot of new lads and, whether you’re there ten years or a couple of weeks, lads are in the same boat and are eager to impress. And he’s brought in a great management team with him.”
“We’d some great times with Dalo but I suppose things move on. It’d be a boring old world if we were all the same. We’re rowing in with Ger and the management team, and looking forward to that.”
