English hits hat-trick as U16 footballers defeat Westmeath

DUBLIN 5-15 WESTMEATH 2-10

Dublin’s under-16 hurlers made it two wins from two starts when they put in a superb second half to defeat Westmeath in Sunday night’s Gerry Reilly Tournament encounter in Oldcastle, Meath.

The Dubs followed up their victory over Louth first day out with another comfortable victory but it was not until the second half that they really got going.

Those present were treated to a great display of football and it was only entering the 40th minute that Dublin got completely on top. Points were exchanged in the opening minutes before Westmeath's Aidan Keena shot to the Dublin net.

Man of the Match, Richie English, who finished with an excellent personal tally of 3-5, pointed from a free for Dublin and Daniel Heavin responded the same way at the other end.

Dublin scored three points without reply to have the sides level.

Westmeath's, 'keeper made a fantastic save twarting Dublin and which he had to do again when Dublinwere leading by a point. Dublin had led by 0-8 to 1-3 when Daniel Heavin got Westmeath's second goal to take the lead again. Points were again exchanged just before the break to leave Dublin trailing 2-4 to 0-9 at the interval.

On the restart Westmeath shot two wides before sub Ross McGarry pointed to have the sides level.

A Daniel Heavin pointed free had Westmeath in front again, but the writing was on the wall when Richie English scored a point and quickly followed with two goals.
While Westmeath never gave up and added three points to their tally, Dublin were on fire with three more goals before the final whistle.
