Dublin Masters Footballers Suffer Defeat To Tyrone In All-Ireland Final

Sat, 6th November 2021

There was disappointment for Dublin’s Masters (Over 40s) footballers in the All-Ireland Final at Drumlish, Co Longford on Saturday afternoon, as Tyrone claimed the Dr Mick Loftus Cup.

In a tight game, Dublin moved ahead with 15 minutes to go, thanks to Donal Ryan’s goal.

However Tyrone finished the stronger to seal the victory and win the title for the second time.

The opening half was score-for-score, with Ryan, Kevin Golden and Ciarán McGuinness getting on the scoresheet for Dublin.

However Michael Anderson’s goal for Tyrone just before the break saw the Ulstermen go in 1-04 to 0-05 up at half time.

The third quarter was a low-scoring affair, as points from Warren Finnegan and Golden put the minimum between the teams.

Dublin then moved ahead just after the second half water break, as Donal Ryan finished to the net, showing great invention after Finnegan’s effort came back off the post.

Tyrone’s response was emphatic, however. Barry Collins hit back for their second goal almost instantly, before the impressive Stephen O’Neill added three further points.

Golden had a goal chance late on for Dublin, but his effort hit the crossbar as Tyrone held on for the victory.
