Dublin GAA stars and others help AIG Insurance give back to communities across Ireland with their AIG Heroes initiative

Dublin GAA stars Michael Fitzsimons, Ciarán Reddin, Philly McMahon, Eoghan O’Donnell, Conor Dooley, Sinéad Goldrick and Mairi Moynihan, former Dublin ladies’ footballer, former international basketball player and current International rugby sensation, Lindsay Peat, current national cup champion, Isaac Westbrook (Swords Thunders) and Shamrock Rovers midfielder, Paul Corry were in Bluebell Community Centre today at the AIG Heroes event where local schools; St. Ultan’s of Cherry Orchard and Our Lady’s of the Wayside were treated to a morning of activities and an inspirational talk with some of Ireland’s finest sports people across Gaelic football, hurling, soccer, basketball.

The AIG Heroes initiative is part of the company’s community outreach and engagement campaign that leverages its sponsorship relationships to help provide positive sporting role models to kids across Ireland. This initiative was launched in November 2016 when the global insurance company, through their sponsorship ties, brought two sporting greats together; Dublin GAA and the All Blacks, to visits two communities in inner city Dublin and Limerick.

The programme, being rolled out in Bluebell Community Centre today, highlights key life skills that can be developed through sport and shows children how these skills can be transferable in life and can be used to achieve goals outside of sport.

Speaking at the event today, Declan O’Rourke, General Manager, AIG Ireland commented:

“At AIG, we are very lucky to have connections with great teams, in Ireland and abroad. We are fully aware of the benefits being involved in sports can have on any individual and that’s why we are delighted to be in a position to use our ties with sporting greats, like our partners in Dublin GAA, to give back to communities, and hopefully inspire future leaders on and off the playing field.

“Thanks to the players and coaches who took the time to be here with us today and we hope the kids from St. Ultan’s of Cherry Orchard and Our Lady’s of the Wayside enjoyed themselves. Also a special thanks to Dublin GAA who have been very helpful in assisting us with this important program.”
