Both of our Senior teams tog out this weekend in the semi-finals of the O'Byrne Cup (Football) & Walsh Cup (Hurling). Our Senior Footballers face Meath at 7pm on Saturday in Parnell Park, then on Sunday our Senior Hurlers take on Galway at 2pm.
This is our senior footballers first competitive game of the new year, having received a bye straight through to the O'Byrne Cup Semi-Finals. Our Footballers will have everything to prove, as Meath are the current O'Byrne Cup champions, having fended off Westmeath in last year's final.
As well as this, Meath were winners in the two sides most recent clash, the Seán Cox Benefit Fundraiser, a friendly-match organised between the two rivals to raise money (Match Report).
The last time our Senior Footballers met Meath in a competitive competition was 2016, in the Leinster SFC Semi-Final, which our senior footballers won by 10 points.
It's a tough fixture for our Senior Hurlers this weekend, as they take on 2017 All-Ireland champions Galway. Galway received a bye to the Walsh Cup semi-finals (alongside Wexford and Kilkenny), so this is their first fixture of the competition. Our hurlers are going strong at the moment, having recorded three victories from three games in the group stages of the Walsh Cup against Carlow, Offaly and Laois.
Our senior hurlers faced Galway twice in 2018, in the National Hurling League (Parnell Park) and in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship (Pearse Stadium). Unfortunately our hurlers lost on both occasions, but they came close in Pearse Stadium, narrowly losing by a single point after a thrilling comeback.
