Kerry extended their lead at the top of the Allianz Football League honours’ list when winning the Division 1 title for the 21st time at the weekend.
Their win over Donegal on Saturday took them to 11 points on the table, one ahead of Dublin. In normal circumstances, the top two would have met in the final but that didn’t happen because of the changed schedule brought about by Covid-19.
Dublin scored 8-102 and conceded 4-100 in their seven FL Division 1 games (v Kerry, Mayo, Monaghan, Donegal, Tyrone, Meath, Galway) with 19 players contributing to their scoring tally.
Leading the way, once again, was Dean Rock with a personal tally of 3-37 (1-0pen, 0-29f), followed at the top of Dublin's scoring chart by Ciarán Kilkenny (0-13, 0-3mark), Brian Fenton (0-9), Seán Bugler (1-6), Con O’Callaghan (1-6, 0-1m) and Paddy Small 0-6 (0-2m).
The 0-6 (0-4f) that Dean Rock scored last Sunday against Galway in Pearse Stadium, Salthill brought his overall tally as Dublin's top-scorer ever during his senior intercounty career (combined NFL/SFC) to 17-456 (96 games) having leapfrogged the legendary Jimmy Keaveney when amassing 1-8 (0-5f) in the previous round against Meath. Jimmy Keaveney scored 30-402 (104 games) during his illustrious intercounty days.
During their seven league games Dublin gave game-time to 38 different players and the Dubs were the only county, across all four divisions, that scored a goal in every round:
Round 1: Dublin 1-19 Kerry 1-19 – Dean Rock (penalty)
Round 2: Dublin 1-11 Mayo 0-8 – Dean Rock
Round 3: Dublin 1-15 Monaghan 1-15 – Kevin McManamon
Round 4: Dublin 1-15 Donegal 1-14 – Paul Mannion

Round 6: Dublin 1-20 Meath 0-19 – Dean Rock
Round 7: Dublin 2-15 Galway 0-15 – Seán Bugler, Con O'Callaghan
Kerry are now eight ahead of Dublin (13) on the Division 1 title roll of honour, with Mayo third on 12 titles. Mayo found themselves at the other end of the Allianz League Division 1 table this year, finishing second last after winning two, drawing one and losing four games.
They will be in Allianz League Division 2 next year for the first time since 1997. They will be joined in that group by Meath who picked up only one point from seven games after returning to Division 1 this year for the first time since 2006.
Roscommon, who were relegated from Division 1 last year, will be back in the top-flight next year after topping the Division 2 table ahead of Armagh. Kieran McGeeney’s men are also promoted, taking them back to Division 1 for the first time since 2012.
Cavan are headed the other way, dropping from Allianz League Division 1 to 3 in successive seasons.
