The Cumann na mBunscol hurling and camogie finals took place in Croke Park earlier this month.
Day 1- Monday June 12th
The Allianz- Cumann na mBunscol hurling and camogie finals in Croke Park provided the usual colour and excitement as dreams came true for hundreds of eager hurling and camogie players.
The standard of play was exceptionally high and the large crowds saw some amazing skills, scores and dramatic moments.
A visit from GAA President, Larry McCarthy, was greatly appreciated and he enjoyed the the wonderful skills on show.
Our Lady Of The Wayside NS, from Kiltiernan, took the first trophy of the day with a good win over Carysfort NS.
Impressive midfielder, Ben O’Brien, is a son of Dublin senior selector and Under 20 manager, Shane O’Brien.
Corner-back and team captain, Teddy Mitchell, has a political pedigree. His grandfather is former politician, Jim Mitchell.
Teacher, Kevin Davis, is manager of the Dublin u15 Development Squad. He was a Croke Park winner with Wayside in Corn Uí Mhaoláin in 1996. Kevin was in Croke Park last Thursday when the school won an award for the best match programme at the finals.
St. Andrews, Lucan did superbly well as their first-ever hurling team reached a final in Croke Park. Scoil Mhuire, Woodview, Lucan took Corn INTO with Nina Tomlinson starring with three goals to her credit. Dublin Chief Executive, John Costello, presented the cup.
John Costello presented Corn INTO to Caoimhe Buckley captain of Scoil Mhuire, Woodview.
Shortly afterwards, Corn Fintan Walsh went to Corpus Christi GNS. Orla Smyth contributed 3-1.
A pulsating battle between North and South saw St. Fiachra’s, Beaumont triumph narrowly against St. Pius X from Terenure in Corn Seán Ó Rinn. Cian Raftery and Cian Cullen are names to remember from this intriguing battle. Holy Family, Swords, Gaelscoil Pádraig, Lucan and Scoil Santain were other winners on the day. Saoirse Ní Shíoda, daughter of former All-Ireland winner Jack Sheedy, was in goals for the Gaelscoil while Scoil Santain had a star in Máire Ní Bhraonáin, daughter of the great James Shiner’ Brennan.
St.Patrick’s, Glencullen, fought an impressive battle against a strong Gaelscoil Míde and were presented with the series Fair Play Award for their play and impressive sportsmanship. The first day’s excitement ended with a victory for Mount Anville NS with Aoife Maxwell, daughter of former Dublin star, Darragh Maxwell, lining out for the winners.
