Two second half goals saw Carlow champions St Mullin's end Cuala's provincial dreams when the Barrowsiders prevailed in Sunday's AIB Leinster Club SHC quarter-final at Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday afternoon.

The crucial goal came three minutes from the end of normal time when James Doyle fired to the net following good approach play from the influential Marty Kavanagh.

The Dalkey men had worked their way into a lead late on but couldn't sustain it to the finish as the Carlow men concluded the game on top to progress to the next round.

Goals proved to be vital for the Carlow side as Cuala led 0-9 to 0-8 at the interval before Jack Kavanagh hit St Mullin's first goal in the third minute of the second half to edge his side 1-9 to 0-10 clear.

The Dublin champions started without the talents and big-game experience of Con O'Callaghan, Colm Cronin and Oisín Goough. Con was introduced 13 minutes into the second half but it was not to be the day of Willie Maher's men.

David Treacy was Cuala's top marksman with a tally of 0-10 (0-8f) and had nosed his side ahead with four minutes to go before St Mullin's conjured up their late winner.

Treacy converted two frees for Cuala in added time but it was not to be their day.
