Crumlin hosting Jim Boggan U15 Hurling Skills Competition

Thu, 23rd July 2020

Crumlin GAA club are hosting the Jim Boggan U15 Hurling Skills Competition in O’Toole Park on Sunday, August 2 (12.0).

Supported by the Dublin County Board and Friends of Dublin Hurling (FODH), this will be the only competition of its kind in the capital and is set to be eagerly contested by the most skilful players within the county.

Who will be crowned as Dublin’s most skilful U15 hurler and succeed our inaugural winner from last year, Adam Kelly of Castleknock GAA?

Adam was presented with his beautiful trophy at the FODH gala dinner last December.

The competition will require players to perform a number of skills including sideline cuts, frees, long puck as well as real match-day skills such as high catching, first touch and striking targets whilst on the move.

The competition has been launched in memory of the great Jim Boggan who managed a string of Crumlin and Dublin teams to numerous accolades including County, Leinster and All-Ireland Championships over a period of five decades.

Jim or “Mr Hurling”, truly was a hurling man who lived and breathed the ancient game and this competition will combine the things Jim treasured most of all; hurling skills, teaching juvenile players and competition.

This year’s winner will receive his trophy from Crumlin’s finest hurler, Brian McMahon. Brian, an All Star winner, had silky skills himself and is a man that will never be forgotten in the Crumlin GAA history.

Visitor numbers will be limited on the day and social distancing measures will of course be adhered to during the competition. Crumlin GAA look forward to welcoming the lads on the day.
