Corcoran: More teams than ever in contention for Dublin SHC

Corcoran: More teams than ever in contention for Dublin SHC

Tue, 21st April 2015

The Dublin SHC ‘A’ gets underway this week with defending champions, Kilmacud Crokes, set to face St Vincent’s on Saturday evening in Parnell Park (6.0).

Last year Crokes needed extra-time to overcome St Jude’s in the decider and this year’s competition will be more hotly contested than ever.

Ballyboden St Enda’s, can be expected to bounce back from the disappointment of 2014, and with David ‘Dotsy’ O’Callaghan now in their attack they will be an even more potent force.

Reflecting on last year’s final Kimacud Crokes and Dublin defender Niall Corcoran says: “We were lucky. It looked like it was gone from us.

“But in fairness, the lads held their nerve, stuck to the game-plan, and we got the result in the end.

“We’ll take on board the lessons of last year and we’ll try to make improvements as we try and retain the title.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s duel with Vinnies, Niall adds: “That will really focus the mind. We played them in the quarter-final last year and we just got over them.

“They are a good, strong side, and it’s never easy beating Vincent’s.

“There’s more teams than ever in contention. You have five, six or seven clubs that could be champions.

“You have to be at your best in every match now. Gone are the days when you could beat a team at half-mast. Any of the teams are capable of doing well on the day.

“There will be some nail-biting stuff. And I think it will be a very good Championship this year.”
