Na Fianna edged out Ballyboden St Enda’s, 2-17 to 2-14, in a titanic Dublin U21HC ‘A’ final at O’Toole Park on Saturday.
Colin Currie was the late hero for the St Mobhi Road outfit with his goal enough to see his side past 14-man Boden, who had Karl Weldon dismissed with 15 minutes to go, following a second yellow card.
The duel looked to be headed for extra-time until Currie found the St Enda’s net from close range to see Na Fianna put together back-to-back titles and add to the minor ‘A’ double they secured in recent weeks.
Na Fianna led 1-9 to 1-8 at half-time after a well-contested opening half hour.
Peter Feeney got the Na Fianna goal just after the midpoint of the opening half following clever play by Dublin senior Donal Burke.
However, Boden finished the half on the up with two Shane Kennedy frees before Aidan Mellett struck a goal for the southsiders in first half injury-time.
The game looked to be headed Na Fianna’s way when they opened up a four-point gap in the second half but the deadball accuracy of Boden keeper Conor O’Donoughue kept the outcome in the fire right to the final whistle with Currie’s late goal ultimately decisive.
