ALL-IRELAND FEILE na nGAEL (U14 hurling) DIVISION 3 FINAL
CASTLEKNOCK 1-12 GLEN ROVERS (Cork) 0-3
An amazing Feile na nGael weekend for the under-14 Castleknock hurlers in Cork was rounded off by a superb performance in the Final played on Sunday in Ballincollig when they got the better of hosts Glen Rovers for the second time in the 2019 competition.
The final produced a bizarre ending when with Castleknock seven points to the good the referee blew the full-time whistle only to discover that there were still five minutes to be played.
Having accepted their defeat in good spirit Glen Rovers were understandably reluctant to continue but the referee insisted the remainder of the match be played out and as a result Castleknock went on to win by 12 points in total.
Castleknock had earlier beaten Bruff from Limerick 1-4 0-4 in a really tough semi-final also in Ballincollig and Mount Leinster Rangers in the quarter-final in Killeagh 0-5 0-3.
In the Group Stages played in the famous Glen Field the Castleknock lads drew their first two games against Watergrasshill and Cois Fharraige before easing past Glen Rovers 2-6 2-4, the team they met again in the decider .
A Garda escort, sirens blaring, through Castleknock to Tir na nÓg on Sunday evening was the signal for wild celebrations as the team and their supporters arrived home.
It was the perfect end to a memorable weekend the only downside of which was having to beat their wonderful hosts Glen Rovers in the Final.
On Saturday evening the boys were guests of the Cork GAA in Pairc Úi Caoimh for the Munster SHC meeting of Cork and Waterford just one example of the amazing generosity and goodwill of the Glen Rovers club and their host families in particular.
