Ciaran Kilkenny led last year's runners-up, Castleknock, to a 0-11 to 0-8 Dublin SFC first round victory over Templeogue Synge St at O'Toole Park last night.
The Dublin 15 side started very well to move five points clear after 23 minutes but as the half wore on Synger got into the game.
Before the interval points from Cillian O'Gara and two from Niall Scully (one free) made it 0-7 to 0-4 in Castleknock's favour at the break.
There was little between the sides in the second half with Seamus O'Carroll's late score for Castleknock settling the issue as they progress to the next round.
Kilkenny kicked 0-3 from play for the eventual winners with Ben Galvin adding 0-2 while Denis Bastick lined out for Synger having missed the entire intercounty league as he makes his way back to full match fitness.
Two goals from Niall O'Callaghan and 1-6 (0-4f) from Luke Keating helped Cuala to a 3-12 to 0-17 victory over Raheny at Russell Park.
Despite the heroics of Brian Fenton, who kicked 0-5 from play over the hour, Cuala led 2-6 to 0-11 at the interval with Niall, younger brother of Con, grabbing his second goal late in the opening half.
Keating's goal arrive early in the second half with points from Conor Mullally, Keating (free) and Eoghan Breathnach strengthening Cuala's position.
However, scores from Fenton and Gavin Ivory, who finished with 0-5 (0-3f), saw the game down to the wire with Cuala doing enough to hold on for victory.
Goals from Dean Rock, Eoin O'Neill, Kevin Leahy, Jason Whelan and the impressive Colm Hulton saw Ballymun Kickhams defeat St Pat's of Palmerstown 5-17 to 2-6 in Chanel.
A late Andrew Baxter goal and points from Conor McHugh (two), Karl O'Connor and the influential Joey Boland saw Na Fianna defy and battling Nh Olaf 2-14 to 0-11 at St Margaret's.
However, Na Fianna also had to thank keeper Conor McCarville for making two fine goal-bound saves as the Na Fianna goal lived a charmed life at times.
The sides were level 0-4 each after 23 minutes before Paul O'Hanlon broke through to fire Na Fianna's first goal and they led 1-6 to 0-6 at half-time.
Nh Olaf dominated for long stages on the resumption but failed to turn chances into scores and paid the price when Na Fianna concluding the game in charge with a scoring flurry.
Goals form Sean Rocks and the impressive Collie Daly saw Skerries Harps overcome Fingallians 2-11 to 1-10 in Garristown.
Fingallians led 0-6 to 0-2 through points from Oisin Lynch, Ciaran Murtagh and Paul Flynn before Rocks' goal had the sides level at the break, 1-5 to 0-8.
It was still all to play for down the final stretch but Daly's goal as well as converted frees by Stephen Smith and Shane Davis saw Skerries progress to the second round.
