Camogie: Cats hit Dublin seniors for six

LEINSTER SENIOR CAMOGIE CHAMPIONSHIP

KILKENNY 6-14 DUBLIN 2-10

A sunny day in O'Toole Park brought with it a fast paced game of camogie between the Dublin Senior Camogie side and Kilkenny.
The ball was thrown in and right from the get go we knew we were in for a faced paced game of camogie.
For the first 5 minutes it was physically- shoulder to shoulder. Dublin were hungry, and knowing from previous performance against Kilkenny, Kilkenny go for
Goals early on. The defenders had to be one step ahead of the cats.
Unfortunately Kilkenny game plan remained the same when A slip from Dublin keeper allowed for Kilkenny to punish Dublin and bury the ball into the back of the net.
This didn’t phase Dublin when shortly after Dublin’s first score came from Kerrie Finnegan who was Exquisite in the air. It could have easily been score of the game. From 35 yards out right in the corner she pinged the ball over the bar. 
Five minutes later Dublin’s Ali Twomey and Ali Maguire both showed their determination to get dublin back level with the Cats. They bagged themselves a point each.
Kilkenny showed there skill and experience as Ann Dalton rattled her Troops forward. For the next 10 minutes kilkenny would go on to dominate scoring 3 consecutive points and a well worked goal from Miriam Walshe.
Despite the nets rattling Dublin preserved through Kilkenny fabulous display of pinpointed pass and off the shoulder runs and Aishling Maher layed the ball off to Ali maguire who again slotted the ball between the posts.
Young guns Sinead Wilde was having a fantastic game in midfield where her efforts were rewarded when she scored a beauty of a point from 30 yards out.
A player so young, yet with talent and skill of an experienced player. Her fellow midfielder and captain Roisin Baker kept Kilkenny all star Ann Dalton quiet for most of the 2nd half much to Dublin’s delight.
29 minutes gone and Dublin’s hunger persisted. Deirdre Johnstone chased her player 20 yards and swiped the ball from Katie powers stick just as she was threatening forward.
Kilkenny dominated the remainder of the first half in the air and led 4-7 to 0-6 and with their killer instinct to drive for goals, however Dublin still remained the hungrier team.

The second half was as physical as the first 30 minutes but referee Ray Kelly let the game flow whch made it an enjoyable display for the large crowd of spectators. Dublin scored 2.4 and Kilkenny 2.7 in the 2nd half.
