Jim Gavin has paid a glowing tribute to Bryan Cullen who recently announced his retirement from the intercounty game.
“Bryan, first and foremost, is a role model for any of these players now trying to break onto the squad,” said Jim following Sunday's Bord na Mona O'Byrne Cup victory over Laois..
“If there is one player I would reference it would be Bryan Cullen, both as a defender – which he was when I first met him with the under-21s in 2003 – to an attacking player as he developed later on in his career.
“In both positions and roles he was exemplary. His collection of medals and trophies is a testament to his work on the field of play," added the Dublin manager.
Bryan amassed a massive medal collection during his days in blue including two All-Ireland SFC, nine Leinster SFC, two NFL and was on the Dublin U21 team that won the county's first All-Ireland U21 title in 2003.
"Off the field of play, he finished a doctorate last year in the middle of preparing for a league and championship campaign; it was just phenomenal what he did and how he managed his time. We wish him the very best ... he is an exemplary individual and an absolute gentleman.”
