As It Stands: Dublin Senior A Hurling Championship

As It Stands: Dublin Senior A Hurling Championship

Fri, 7th August 2020

The Dublin SHC 'A' may have been delayed but it has got off to an encouraging start with plenty of thrills and spills and high-scoring in the two rounds to date.

Plenty of clubs seem to have a 2020 vision as the competition promises to build to a very exciting conclusion over the coming weeks.

As it stands six teams have progressed to the knockout stages (quarter-finals) - St Vincent's and Lucan Sarsfields (Group 1), Kilmacud Crokes (Group 2), St Brigid's (Group 3), Na Fianna and Cuala (Group 4).

All six clubs have won both of their games to date while there is still plenty to be decided in Group 2 and Group 3.

Kilmacud Crokes have set plenty of tongues wagging in the capital with the conviction of their opening two displays in Group 2 - victories over Ballyboden St Enda's (4-18 to 0-16) and Craobh Chiaráin (1-22 to 0-13).

They have tallied 5-40 in those games and have yet to concede a goal (0-29) with keeper Matt Collins in inspired form in their victory over southside rivals Ballyboden first time out.

In both their games they had nine different scores showing their array of scoring options with Marc Howard (1-8, 0-4f), Ronan Hayes (2-4, 1-0pen), Alex Considine (2-1), Oisín O'Rorke (0-7, 0-5f, 0-2 '65'), Fergal Whitely (0-6) and Fionn O Ceallaigh (0-5) their top marksmen so far.

Dublin senior O'Rorke missed the victory over Craobh having been red-carded against 'Boden.

In that Group Ballyboden St Enda's are currently in second spot ahead of Craobh on scoring difference and the sides meet in their concluding round-robin phase game to decided who will join Crokes in the last-eight.

Last year's runners-up, St Brigid's, top Group 3 following victories over Whitehall Colmcille (1-17 to 0-6) and St Jude's (3-17 to 1-17) with the other three - Whitehall, St Jude's and Faughs - now battling it out for the second qualification spot.

The last round of games sees Brigid's face Faughs with Whitehall playing St Jude's - currently the postions in the group are Whitehall in second (two league points), with St Jude's ahead of Faughs on scoring difference with both on one league point following their opening round draw against each other in O'Toole Park.

Na Fianna have won both their games in Group 4 in very clinical fashion - recording big victories over Setanta (5-32 to 1-16) and Thomas Davis (4-16 to 1-13) to make it into the last-eight and they are joined there by defending champions Cuala who have beaten Thomas Davis (1-22 to 0-15) and Setanta (1-22 to 0-12).

The St Mobhi Road side's combined scoring tally over the two rounds so far of a highly impressive 9-48 is the largest tally in the competion at this stage of the race to be Dublin SH 'A' champions for 2020.
