AIG Ireland have launched the AIG ‘Show Your Skills’ competition as part of their support for the 20x20 movement.
AIG are calling on female athletes at all levels across all sporting codes to showcase their skill by entering a new online competition to be in with a chance to win a monthly €1,000 prize.
Participants are encouraged to upload a short video to AIG.ie/Skills performing a skill in their preferred sport. The Show Your Skills competition will run for six months (March - August) kicking off on March 2. Each month, the most impressive skill, as judged by a panel, will be crowned the winner and awarded the €1,000 prize fund.
20x20 is an all-inclusive movement to shift Ireland’s cultural perception of women’s sport with:
AIG’s support of female sport goes beyond Gaelic Games through their sponsorship of the AIG Irish Ladies Golfing Union Cups & Shields, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) AIG Irish Open Tennis Championships and AIG Forza Irish Badminton International. Internationally, AIG also sponsors the New Zealand Black Ferns rugby team and in golf, the Women’s British Open.
Speaking at the launch General Manager of AIG in Ireland Declan O’Rourke said; “AIG is both delighted and proud to play its part in the development of girls’ and women’s sport in Ireland by being a proud partner and sponsor of the 20x20 movement. The Show Your Skills competition is the perfect platform for female athletes to show their talent, and it’s a great way to celebrate the various sports that we are proud to sponsor.”
Sharon O’Connor, 20x20 Campaign Manager added “Increasing visibility of women’s sporting skill and talent is a key part of what 20x20 is all about – women’s sport isn’t missing the skill, it’s been missing the audience. The Show Your Skills competition is an opportunity for women and girls across Ireland to showcase their skill and their love of sport. In launching this competition and offering a monthly prize, AIG are creating a platform for women’s sporting skill to be seen - a platform that can inspire others to take up a sport for themselves or give them the confidence to create their own skills video. This one of a kind competition is another tangible statement of AIG’s support for women in sport that amplifies their #EffortIsEqual message.”
